Servers Check BTS Monitoring Systems

Purpose-designed for remote applications, the ServersCheck Base Transceiver Station (BTS) range of monitoring products matches the needs of clients in Australia and the Asia-Pacific nations where the unfriendliness of geography means a trip to a base station can cost thousands of dollars to perform a simple system reboot.

What is BTS and Technical Room Monitoring?

At the BTS or technical room site, the ServersCheck product will proactively and constantly monitor the following to safeguard revenue and capex:

1. Monitor 3G Data Network connectivity and performance
High performance 3G networks are required to compensate for high data demands from the growing popularity of smart phones, like iPhone. ServersCheck monitors the mobile data network at the BTS from a smart phone user perspective – something that is currently unable to be monitored from a central location (NOC). You can now remotely monitor latency as well as URL and download speeds.

2. End User Simulation - Voice Call and SMS
Monitor your network from an end-user perspective by testing call ability and send/receive of SMS. This unique feature enables you to safeguard your revenue against quality issues previously only detectable by complaints from end-users.

Voice Call Testing: Test the basic voice calling capability and interconnectivity with other operators by calling numbers outside your own network.

SMS: The unit will send an SMS at preset intervals and will time how long it takes for the SMS to be received. By monitoring the complete cycle, you have a complete view of the text messaging service. When a service issue is observed or detected the monitoring device will send out an alert immediately over the IP network back to the NOC. If the IP network is down the monitoring device using ServersCheck’s patented approach will switch onto a competitor’s network to send the alert via the dongle.

3. IP Uplink, Network and Systems Monitoring (SNMP)
Now monitor any IP enabled device for availability and performance using any of the 60 different check types on board. SNMP enabled devices can be monitored with a few clicks. The appliance quickly gives you an insight of what is going on in the room or shelter from your central command facility.

4. Environmental Conditions of BTS
Failing AC units, intruding water and adverse weather conditions can impact the availability of your equipment, shelter and technical room. The appliance has two sensors that monitor:

Temperature Monitoring: Is recommended to detect failing air conditioning units that cause rapid deterioration of equipment. Remote reboot the device to immediately shut down equipment or start a secondary AC unit.

Humidity Monitoring: Is a necessity to reduce the risks associated with high humidity (like water corrosion) or low humidity (like static electricity build up) and the damage associated with it.

Water Monitoring: Leaks from AC Units, roof or flooding can be catastrophic to electronic equipment – the earlier the alert, the quicker you can respond to protect your investment!

5. Power System Monitoring
65% of failures in shelters and technical rooms are power related. Reduce risks of downtime by monitoring batteries, UPS systems, rectifier output and mains. ServersCheck integrates with most SNMP based power monitoring device, and the device will still alert you, even if links are down.

Duons can also offer you third party systems, if you don’t already have an option in place. This enables you to monitor Inputs of 3 DC ports and 2 AC: DC (2x 0-40 VDC, 1 36-60 VDC) and AC (12/240) as well as dry contacts for monitoring breaker trips and security sensors.

6. Monitor O&M Activities & Physical Security
Tamper-proof network cameras connect to the appliance via the local IP network and can monitor O&M activities and security inside and around the shelter or technical room. Security monitoring is done locally inside the site – giving security monitoring capabilities without requiring valuable bandwidth.

Recordings taken from cameras are motion-triggered and stored locally on the device, which also sends an alert to the NOC. As the recording is stored on the device no valuable network bandwidth is used. All processing is distributed using the same hardware used for end-user simulation. You can connect remotely to the appliance at any time to retrieve the relevant recording and verify what is going on inside the shelter or on the BTS site.

Avoid hassles caused by poor maintenance, verify quality and value of your contractors and track progress of station maintenance... all with the same device

7. Allow Remote Corrective Actions
System fail issues can often be resolved by resetting. Through secure communication capabilities you can perform a cold reboot of equipment installed in the shelter remotely rather than needing to visit the site in person. ServersCheck devices link seamlessly with AC or DC PDU units.

The ability to switch-off and switch-on systems in a secure way from a remote location saves a lot of time – it also saves revenue and reduces downtime.

Additional Benefits to BTS Monitoring Technology

The device will also provide you with an alert should errors occur. You will know what is happening inside your shelter and technical room and can immediately take remote corrective actions - even when the entire site is down, so you are still communicating with the rest of the network.

This solution enables you to monitor remotely the conditions of base transceiver stations (BTS), satellite communication sites, antenna sites, oil and gas facilities, technical equipment rooms, military locations, solar and wind power locations... and more.
