ServersCheck It System Monitoring, Network
 Monitoring and Server Monitoring

This purpose-built Environmental sensor integrates with any Network Management System to monitor the physical environment in which the IT system operates.

Designed to act like a technician watching over your servers every hour of every day, the ServersCheck Environmental sensors can monitor and alert you of any environmental factor that exceeds the pre-set parameters you decide.  Excessive heat, moisture, humidity, airflow, power failure and more can all be monitored by a series of probes that can be connected to the sensor.  Deploy the probes as you see fit and connect them via Ethernet cable to the central ServersCheck appliance.

This system is the ultimate in data centre and server room protection - imagine the ability to remotely monitor environmental conditions like temperature, humidity, power failure, airflow and water presence in your server or technical room, wherever it is located.  Then imagine being able to take action that mimics being on-site to preserve your assets before they fail or to perform a reboot and restore uptime.  ServersCheck Environmental monitoring can save your businesses thousands upon thousands of dollars because it gives you the ability to be on-site, all the time without leaving your desk.

Here’s more detail on what the ServersCheck Environmental Monitoring System can do:

1. Monnitor rack temperature (front & back) and airflow

First, a note on terminology... the modules that can be connected to probes and which are themselves connected to the main ServersCheck appliance are called SensorGateways.

This particular SensorGateway appliance has an operating temperature range of 10ºC to an amazing +75ºC.  The sensor is powered through your Ethernet connection or a power adaptor, and uses an external temperature probe (the white device attached to a cord in the image below) allowing for temperature monitoring 24x7. Most importantly as with each SensorGateway, the device has its own IP address – this allows it to generate alerts via email from inside the rack as soon as a problem is detected.

Air flow sensitivity can be calibrated through an interface with the SensorGateway meaning that you can set the device to the exact conditions you want and have it alert you only when your specified environmental variances occur.

Connect one or multiple probes to the main Monitoring appliance and you can monitor every part of a room or rooms.  The main ServersCheck Environmental Monitoring appliance also has the ability to send SMS which is important in the event that a network failure blocks email transmissions.

2. Ambient and air-conditioning temperature & humidity monitoring

Humidity is the cause of rapid deterioration of network systems. Thus monitoring humidity in a data centre is as important as monitoring temperature.  Too low humidity may result in electrostatic discharge causing immediate, permanent equipment damage. Excessive humidity could create corrosion on components, a slow and often irreversible process.  This Sensor Gateway has an operating humidity range of: 0 to 90% RH (relative humidity, non-condensating) and outstanding accuracy of +/- 2 % RH between 10 % RH to 90 %

This SensorGateway appliance comes with 2 temperature sensors: one, non-calibrated, built in to the SensorGateway appliance itself (the orange device shown below) and one that can be calibrated inside the external probe (the white device).

It can alert you autonomously through email or SNMP Traps. SMS alerting is possible through the ServersCheck Monitoring Software/Appliance which acts as the central hub for all the different sensors running in your network room(s).

3. Water & flooding detection under raised floors with PoE / SNMP / Ethernet Water Detection & Flooding Sensor for Computer Rooms

Water damage is one of the most unknown environmental threats to your servers – it can go undetected until it causes massive damage to your network and system – this can all be safeguarded with early detection and quick removal of the threat. Due to the location of many server rooms water damage can be caused by multiple reasons:

  • Flooding

  • Leaking through the roof

  • Leaking from rooms above

  • Leaking from pipes running through computer room

  • Defective air conditioning systems.

With this SensorGateway you are monitoring the threat of water damage 24x7.  It detects not only surface water present but increased moisture levels on hard floors and carpets.  The warnings are generated via email and SNMP traps. The detection probe comes with a 6m / 20ft purple water sensitive cable triggering readings where water touches the cable.

4. Mains power failure detection and vibration PoE / SNMP / Ethernet Power Failure Sensor

When your power goes out, your UPS kicks in to safeguard your server, but very rarely do you know when this happens.  This power SensorGateway enables alerts to tell you just that.  With the power adaptor placed before the UPS device it alerts you as soon as there is an outage.  You are notified via email and SNMP traps –SMS notification is also available when this sensor is paired with The main ServersCheck monitoring software/appliance.  The best feature is that with a SNMP capable network management system you

are able to query the sensor in real time to get an update.

Vibration Sensitivity can be calibrated through an interface with the SensorGateway.  This feature is useful in environments where noise from traffic or airconditioning can create excessive vibration that shortens the lifespan of your critical hardware.
