ELECTRONIC REPAIR
TELSTRA, AUSTRALIA
CAN RADIO EQUIPMENT REPAIR
25 years of high-volume repair for Australia’s largest telco
THE CHALLENGE
Telstra's Customer Access Network (CAN) extends across rural and remote Australia, delivering connectivity to communities far from major centres.
Equipment deployed in these harsh environments faces extreme conditions; lightning strikes, heat, dust, moisture, and power surges, leading to high failure rates.
With thousands of units spread across remote sites, Telstra needed a repair partner that could handle high volumes reliably, maintain consistent quality, and keep the network operational without the cost of replacing equipment wholesale.
WHAT DUONS DELIVERS
Since 2001, DUONS has partnered with Telstra to provide repair and logistics services for CAN radio equipment. Our Brisbane workshop receives, diagnoses, repairs, and tests thousands of units per year, including equipment damaged by lightning strikes and environmental exposure.
Every repair is performed at component level under our ISO 9001 quality management system with full documentation and traceability.
THE RESULT
25 years of uninterrupted, high-volume service delivery.
By repairing rather than replacing, DUONS has helped Telstra extend the operational life of its rural CAN infrastructure at a fraction of the cost of new equipment, keeping remote communities connected.

OPT-NC, NEW CALEDONIA
MICROWAVE NETWORK MODERNISATION
Turnkey long-haul microwave upgrade for New Caledonia's sole telecom operator
THE CHALLENGE
OPT-NC, the sole telecommunications operator in New Caledonia, is responsible for all telco infrastructure across the territory, from urban centres to remote island communities. Their long-haul microwave network, which serves as both a fibre optic backhaul and the primary network for remote areas, was running on equipment installed over a decade ago. OPT-NC needed a complete modernisation delivered end-to-end by a single provider: design, installation, commissioning, training, and ongoing support.
WHAT DUONS DELIVERS
A full turnkey solution using Nokia MPT-HL technology four high-capacity links across eight channels, plus a dedicated 2x8+0 configuration. DUONS handled everything from initial link design and site surveys through to installation, commissioning, management software upgrades, staff training, and ongoing maintenance and support including a dedicated hotline.
CHALLENGES
The Nokia MPT-HL platform was new technology for both DUONS and OPT-NC, requiring specialist training before deployment. Several sites were in remote, difficult-to-access locations requiring extensive survey work and logistics planning. The project also ran during a period of civil unrest in New Caledonia, which required DUONS to adapt logistics on the fly to minimise travel between sites while keeping the project on track.
THE RESULT
OPT-NC's long-haul microwave network was successfully modernised with significantly increased capacity, improved reliability, and a fully trained local team capable of managing the new platform ongoing.
